The Controversial Presidential Election of 1800
by Dick Burnon, Dumont Historian and Round Table Member.
The 1800 Presidential Election was was a long, bitter rematch of the 1796 Election; the first one that featured a two-party political system which
was sometimes referred to as ‘The Second American Revolution.”
It was just as controversial as the 2016 Presidential Election.

Painting America’s Portrait
During his September 28, 2017 talk at the Bergen County Historical Society, James Thompson, author of Painting America’s Portrait – How Illustrators Created Their Art and its sequel, Painting America’s Portrait – How Illustrators Created America, will commemorate two of Bergen County’s greatest artists. Harvey Dunn lived and worked in Leonia and Tenafly nearly forty years. During this time, Dunn established himself as one of America’s greatest artist-storytellers, one of its best fine artists, and art teachers.
Among his notable works, which Mr. Thompson will highlight, are the war scenes he produced as a Captain in the American Expeditionary Force. He spent much of his timein France with the troops on the front lines. No other artist did a better job capturing the drama of those moments and the bravery of those men than Captain Harvey Dunn. The brave men who served with Captain Dunn won “the war to end all wars” one hundred years ago—in November 2018.
